Hey J.L. Kirk and Associates - Nobody likes a bully

I just got home from work and I was signing into my blog so that I could nominate Kat Coble as one of ‘Thinking Blogger Awards‘ deal because she always makes me think, when I ran into a firestorm.
My friend Kat and her husband visited one of those ‘headhunter’ executive job search places (J.L. Kirk) [...]

The myth of the American Black monolith, or, even though it doesn’t exist, Al Sharpton gets anointed anyway..

If one reads Tom Wolfe’s best novel, ‘The Bonfire of the Vanities” today for the first time, one would think that Wolfe followed Al Sharpton around and wrote a novel about the Rev. Actually Wolfe’s novel hit the ground before anyone outside of Brooklyn knew the Rev existed.
Wolfe was commenting on another angle [...]

American Ido..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Actually I didn’t watch it last night, but I can tell you this: Bottom 2 - Haley and Phil.  Haley is gone.  Maybe Phil will start showing some leg now that Haley is kaput.

Imus in the mourning…

I’ve listened or watched Don Imus for over 30 years. In all that time, he has offended probably not only every ethnic group, but pretty much anyone who deigns to breathe the same air as the I-Man.
He’s survived some serious addictions, and he’s as cranky as a 90 year old searching vainly for his [...]

Low in the gravy lay, or, Jesus Christ, SuperHero!

Growing up in the orthodox church of Christ was really weird sometimes. We didn’t celebrate Easter because we were supposed to celebrate the resurrection EVERY Sunday, if not every day. So, no special service, no sunrise assemblies, and worst of all, I didn’t get any candy*. The hymnal we used [...]

Why God invented blogs: Part 3*

Despite near encounters with wayward women, beers pounded, nude beaches and Rotarians, this post is oddly appropriate for Easter.   Ceeelcee has the way with words.
*Part 1:  Anything this guy writes.
Part 2: Anything this woman writes.
The rest of y’all are real swell.

Grinding it out with Tarantino and Rodriguez, or if you’re only going to see one zombie movie where Rose McGowan has a machine gun for a leg, THIS IS IT..

You’ve probably heard by now, but in case you haven’t, ‘Grindhouse‘ is actually a double feature. The first film, ‘Planet Terror’ is probably one of the funniest and bloodiest zombie B movies since ‘Evil Dead’. I wish I had invested in fake blood packet stock before the making of Grindhouse - it [...]

McCain gears up for a visit to the 8th Avenue Kroger*

McCain fashions the latest in flak-wear with some of his well-armed friends. It’s always good to be prepared.
McCain: ‘This is how I roll. everywhere. I was glad to have these guys over at Liberty University…’
*Note to the guy in the parking lot who has been out of gas for the last 5 weeks [...]

Fred Thompson post of the day..

The Fred ‘gasm’ furor may be slowing down a bit, while we all wait for our plain-speaking-commonsensical Hamlet to make up his mind, but the reaction to Fred and the Dobson proclamation continue to make for fun reading.
This post, by Harding University professor Mark Elrod isn’t exactly brand new (10 days old is six months [...]

oh..Keep on lying, lying and denying, or, obscenity gentrified

Vice President Cheney chirping yesterday on his favorite lapdog’s radio show continues to spread the big lie:
Saddam and al-Qaida were more than chums, they were co-conspirators. “He [Abu Musab al-Zarqawi] took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq, organized the al-Qaida operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene and then, [...]

Stand up, Democrats*, stand up on this war

(do you support) Setting a time-table for withdrawing all U.S. troops from Iraq no later than the fall of 2008 60% yes 38% no
Gallup Poll on March 28, 2007.
The war continues to be framed by the Administration, the neo-cons and all the pro-war bloggists as ’stay and protect the Iraqi and ultimately the American way [...]

Will Superman stay in the sunshine? Hint: The odds of pleasing all the blue-grassers most of the time is as futile as trying to catch the wind..

PLAAAY BALL….for the love of the big red machine, please dear God, tell me he governs better than he pitches!

The Mayor of Cincinnati is a right-winger who goes juuuuust a little bit left…

I love the look on ex-Red Eric Davis after the pitch is thrown…

The play’s the thing: Friday Night Lights and The Shield bring it home

Ask one of the best bloggers in the East Tennessee blog-a-teria what the best show on TV might be.  R. Neal will tell you, and he’s right.  I like Neal’s politics and I love his taste in TV.
If we’re talking non-cable, two shows stand tall amongst the dreck: Friday Night Lights, and now returning for [...]

As a staunch Vandy fan, it pains me to say this..

But, congratulations are in order for Tennessee’s Lady Vols and Coach Pat Summitt.   Recruiting Ms. Candace Parker may be one of the most brilliant moves of your coaching career!
If I’m Arkansas, I stop licking my wounds at the reneging of the Creighton coach and offer Coach Summitt millions of dollars to coach my team.  There [...]

Sanjaya Idol, it’s his show, the rest are just (actually) singing

Sanjaya will live on for three or four more weeks and continue to draw most of the attention. After tonight, in his white suit and feeble rendition of ‘Dancing Cheek to Cheek’ (his talent or lack of same at this point is irrelevant), the best way to top himself is to don a Bugs [...]

One brief shining moment, or, walking the walk..

If you watch the NCAA men’s championship game each year on CBS, you know that they feature highlights of the tournament at the end of the broadcast, with the Luther Vandross song ‘One Shining Moment’ playing under the hoop-lights. Vandy got a lot of face-time in this year’s revue, including the heart-breaking game-winning shot [...]

24 question, or The ‘Powers’ that be…

Why in hades would the then Presidential candidate David Palmer select Noah Daniels (Powers Boothe) as his Vice-Presidential candidate?  Based on what we know about Palmer (at least before tonight’s rather surprising ending), he would not be all that attracted to the super-hawkish Daniels.
I do wish we had a little back-story on this.  Maybe it [...]

Apparently my crystal ball was broken, or, I’m definitely a false prophet..

The Salem’s Lots Department of Accountability informs me that I need to come clean about some predictions I made a few weeks ago. It seems that I fearlessly predicted that Florida would NOT repeat as the NCAA Men’s basketball champions. D’oh!
On the other hand, I’m still sticking to my prediction that Michael Silence will [...]

Opening day, or, if I was king of the world (or maybe Fred Thompson)

If I was the king with the stentorian tones of Fred ‘is he running’ Thompson, I would declare that the opening of the baseball season would be today.  THE first game would be played in daylight.  Sunday night might be an exhibition, but baseball starts at 1:00 PM on the first Monday in April.
If I [...]
