This is a really sad one for me…so many so-called liberal/progressive columnist writer types have the sense of humor of a computer desk. They make their points, often stridently, and then stride off waging war on the next conservative way-station.
Molly Ivins wasn’t one of those. She was funny as hell. You may not have agreed with her, but she could laugh at herself, her fellow Dems, her fellow liberals, and of course, whichever nimrods were running the joint aka ‘gummint’.
One of her last columns was about being thankful. She closed the column with a characteristic eye-twinkling paragraph:
So many of our media mavens have been so wrong for so long that we may yet see a mere modicum of becoming self-doubt from them. And think how thankful we’d all be for that.
I saw Molly at the Southern Festival of Books here in Nashville a few years ago, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in one thirty minute period.
